2010 Latino Film Festival (ALL photos are taken by me)

Today was my first visit at the Latino Film Festival in the Lower East Side
The movie I viewed was called American Dreams Deferred, a documentary by talented director William Caballero. As a graduating NYU student raised in Coney Island, he presents a exquisite tasteful movie turning his life story on with the recording silver button. An emotionally tense documentary representing his Puerto Rican-American family's location of North Carolina into Charlotte's Web of "breaking the cycle" of his family's unreached American Dreams. With a gracefully raw substance of William's determination, you remain allies through the cliff-hanging tale and hope he survives and conquers this cycle.
This here is a trailer of American Dreams Deferred.

Declare YOUR Denim yeahhh!!!

Recently I got chosen as an It Girl, to help out with Teen Vogue's Event: Declare Your Denim! The day started tip top at 9 am and I was helping spread the word of the event so rigorously. I flicked my hair, and extended my headband from my hair line, and I saw gorgeous Amy Astley, and Shailene Woodley. This event donated jeans and money to people who have been affected by the gulf disaster. Great to know that I worked for a great company that cares for helping others in need. In a time like this, we all need to learn to lend a hand to those who are searching for that hand.

this is my second project that got exhibited in MoMA

"My flourished eye photography was created through my image of dramatic qualities, which the eyes can feature unlike any other human body part. 'Eyes are the window to the soul', and they offer a more vulnerable deep felt physicality rather than moving arms and legs. They tap into our senses and are the only representation of what the world looks like outside our brain's ideas. Eyes represent the real world and to appreciate your eyesight is appreciating the world you see."

Special thanks to Mr. Duct tape, (he hates when you call him Duck tape), Mrs. Sharp Scissors, Mr. Nikon, & the 10 little munchkins you often forget, your fingers for ACTUALLY making it possible.

MC GALLERY and MoMA exhibition with Dijana Mesin (My mom)

I recently created a dress with my mom that was exhibited at MC Gallery, and well as
MoMA.
Here's my masterpiece and the concept behind it.

Straight from my MoMA Artist Statement...
"The idea behind the dress full of boxes is being the devil's advocate vs. gravity. Experimenting with overall geometrical means has expanded the thoughtfulness of shapes. The cascading square boxes symbolize New York City skyscrapers. The wheat and the colorful birds exemplify images of my native Croatian folklore. The undersized double blades of wheat represent my mother and I as we evolve amidst NYC's madness."
and so the exhibit continues...

Dirty Martini Burlesque Act @ "The Missy & Leyla Show"

Dirty Martini, performer and Burlesque girl turned Chanel~!
Karl Lagerfeld choose HER ( :D ) as one of the leading ladies. When the Jan./Feb. 2010 issue of V came out, most didn't know the history of this confident, voluptuous figure.

karl lagerfeld, miss dirty martini, chanelchanel
Although Karl is now supportive of Dirty Martini, he himself has a history behind curvaceous women, quoting "no one wants to see curvy women" and "you've got fat mothers with their bags of chips sitting in front of the television and saying that thin models are ugly." Shot in Chanel's house along with actress Jane Schmitt who once starred as Gabrielle Chanel in Lagerfeld's short films Paris-Shanghai: A Fantasy.
This is a photograph my mom took of Dirty Martini herself in NYC performing in 2002.

happy little camper

I went upstate to a beautiful camp and therefore without any technology and my commitment focused towards God's wonders, one can become very distracted from the outside world. My little new york munchkins, what ever over-stressed, busy, exhausted traveler needs is a rebirth. I found mine miles off of my surreal Big Apple.
2 traveling bags, sunscreen, and heavy blankets lead to an indescribable escape- The Adirondack mountains have concluded all my pleasurable pondering.
This being my FIRST CAMP, I obviously had other "firsts" or "fear nothing but fear itself" risk taking adventures, including my first S'more (yup i said first), Kayaking amongst mountain outlines, lily pads, and repetitive echoing, as well as a muddy hike, naming the constellations (witnessed my first shooting star= SPEECHLESS), diving in the lake without the taste of salt in my mouth, the contagious camp fire, and after meal songs, holding a precious toad in my palm, late night girl talk, and winning Cleanest Cabin Award (!) holla.

This image was taken by one of the happy campers and my friend Gissaury.

Mother nature and I go way back haha, but I've come to understand that besides my love for the environment, I've developed strong beliefs.
--->Taoism a Chinese belief   /    Animism, an African belief  = both mean being one with nature.
---> I also now believe in breatharianism, the belief and practice of not living off of food or water, but rather off of energy from the sun and deep meditation.
But besides the tremendous colors, I've noticed what our society has done in order to destroy them.
---> Our Deforestation- the cutting down of trees due to overpopulation and office uses.
---> Our use of Pesticides, which causes dead zones full of an unequal bio mass.
---> And even our bug sprays - are you still wondering why your getting bitten?
DID YOU KNOW (?) that corporations that sell these liquids promising satisfaction are stealing your $. You know why, because mosquitoes become resistant to this spray, and they reproduce, and due to Darwin's theory, the survival of the fittest exists, and therefore the offspring have mutations that allow them to adapt to the environment.
---> Ort, which refers to leftover food, can actually be used for compost and serve as nutrients for the plants due to the abuse of fertilizer (!)
---> Industrialized countries leading to the ozone layer breakdown, and global warming.
Read these arrowed points carefully as you further strengthen your relationship with mother nature, she is overwhelmed and needs our help so desperately.

whoa a rhino! dude its totally an elephant! can't you tell!?

tangling, colorful, eye catching, squeezable, flinging, countable, trade-able silly bandz are CONQUERING school hallways, and even universities! when did this trend land? and from where...
I WAS ON A QUEST...,
Robert Croak, a man that first promoted concerts in Toledo, turned into a kiddie loving crave monster, but it wasn't HIS idea.
nope. it was actually a trade show in CHINA.
About 3 years ago, Croak and the manager of the factory who produces the bandz, went to visit a trade show. Once Croak saw the bands, he thought that perhaps with the right equipment and technology if they were made thicker, they could be worn! Robert declared them to be "toys"

"The animal bands were hardly new.
The Japanese creators had been recognized with a national design award and had been selling them in America in a limited capacity since 2002.
The Museum of Modern Art Design Store & Japanese department store Takashimaya sold them prior to Robert's claim. New York magazine singled the animal bands out in October of that year, noting that they could be worn as bracelets.
But what Croak saw in China "wasn't Silly Bandz," he says. "We trademarked the name. We created them. We created the craze.""
the silly bandz face book pg has over 255,000 fans!
Silly bandz are far from getting extinct, although some schools have even banned them due to "dangerous flinging". Even Sarah Jessica Parker's kids have been stretching them.
A notorious story of the new fashion trend, is also a false verdict of its truth full creators.
and now a presentation of the new hit single : silly bandz (*LOVE*)

The Mastermind Behind Gaga

SO WHO EXACTLY IS BEHIND THE WORKS OF THE
HOUSE OF GAGA?
<----------
Lady Gaga’s designer – Marko Mitanovkski. Flanking him are make-up artist, Issidora    Petrovic and hair stylist Nina Butkovich-Budden

A few days ago Marko's fashion show took place in my hometown of Split, Croatia.
Serbian native designer Marko Mitanovkski is a fresh face into the world of fashion. But he's taking it like a blizzard with the world's largest client LADY GAGA.
Some say Mitanovski is the Alexander McQueen of London blood.
During London Fashion Week, Marko surprised the crowd with exotic theatrical costumes inspired by the Renaissance, and Macbeth, one of my favorite books.

Review of West Side Story & Memphis

I was REALLY disappointed by w.s.s. In middle school music class, I fell in love with the music and story thanks to my music teacher Alma. While reading the book, at each scene when the song appears in the book, she would tune the w.s.s. CD. I madly wanted to see the show! Thanks to City at Peace (<3), a musical theater activism program I'm involved with, I jumped at the chance to see it for FREE (!) along with Memphis. I clenched the playbill in my hand as the opening number began. My excitement decreased as the show went on, for some reason, it just wasn't as attractive as I thought it would be. The songs and dances were beautiful, but the set design and the projection wasn't as fabulous. Projection-can you believe it, the first thing any actor should have in mind. I couldn't hear half of the text, and I was often lost.
--->I came to the conclusion, that by fact a critic shouldn't have the best seat in the house, but surprisingly the worst ( all the way in the back). This way EVERYTHING can be judged, the articulation, AND the projection.

On the other hand Memphis was exuberant!!! The storyline was cliff-hanging. The music gave me chills on the back of my neck. The catchy beats were contagious, and I felt like dancing in my chair. The set and costumes carried me on a magic carpet to America in the 50s, it was done magnificently. The show was believe able and over the top. The energy was extremely pleasing, and couldn't go about being ignored. There was never a moment I was waiting for something to happen. The actors were real, and nothing in the story seemed "blocked", but instead natural. The performance sucked me onto the stage, and I was on the verge of all my emotions throughout each scene. I came out the theater dancing and singing!

--->I was SO relieved to see that Memphis won at this year's Tony's, as the best musical of the year! Reading PxP magazine, I noticed it took 6 years (!!!) for this musical to be produced! A must see for sure.

Adrienne Bailon from the Cheetah Girls

Adrienne came in with her makeup artist Mario, who did a tutorial class teaching us his specialty of makeup tricks. After wards the guests that appeared at this event, were given
makeup goodies including clinique, and other brands. A cherry on the top at the end of the event.
